Being gay in Cuba has never been easy. While things have changed
considerably on the island, homosexuality is still taboo. For women, it
is even more difficult: they have to face the double standard of being
women and gay in a society with a very high level of “machismo”. It is
even more complicated being a lesbian mother.
Lesbians in Cuba do not have access to adoption or IVF techniques –
but as MAMIS uncovers, in Cuba, there is often a way...
MAMIS is the story of Violeta, Isabel, Tamara, and Yoana - lesbian
Cuban women who cut their own path despite the prejudices of
Cuban society. It is a story about families that are tired of being
treated as second-class citizens.
